From Celebration to Reality: Why Women’s Safety Must Remain a Daily Priority

This month, we marked International Women’s Day, celebrating the achievements, resilience and contributions of women across the world.

However, a recent BBC report has brought into sharp focus a more sobering reality that one in five recorded crimes in England and Wales relates to violence against women. It’s a stark reminder that for many women and girls, safety is not something that can be taken for granted.

Violence against women and girls remains a significant issue in the UK, impacting individuals, families and communities every day. One in four women will experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, and every 30 seconds, police receive a call for help related to it.

At Unitrust, we believe security is about more than protecting places, it’s about helping people feel safe. That’s why we actively support initiatives focused on the prevention of violence against women and girls, work with clients to create Safe Havens, and raise funds each year for Refuge, whose work provides vital support to women and children escaping domestic abuse.

While it is important to celebrate women’s achievements, it is essential that we continue to prioritise their safety, not just on one day, but every day of the year.

If you are concerned about someone, need support, or would like to help those affected by domestic abuse, you can find more information at Refuge:https://refuge.org.uk/
