Unitrust, in partnership with Cushman and Wakefield, has opened two Safe Havens at St Katharine Docks. This location is not just a scenic spot; it’s a busy area filled with London’s iconic landmarks. Visitors can see the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, and the beautiful River Thames. St Katharine Docks is vibrant and bustling, packed with a marina, offices, shops, restaurants, residential flats, and even a university campus. Every day, it attracts a large number of tourists, workers, residents, and students.

A Growing Initiative for Public Safety
The new Safe Havens are part of a London-wide initiative developed by the Safer Business Network. This program has the backing of the City of London Police and the Metropolitan Police. These designated areas aim to provide a secure refuge for anyone feeling unsafe or vulnerable. This is particularly important for women and girls. The Safe Havens offer services such as phone charging, access to water, restroom facilities, and trained staff. These staff members are equipped to offer help or contact emergency services when needed.
Since January 2024, our commitment to the Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls initiative has driven us to assist clients across London in creating Safe Havens. Each Safe Haven is carefully organised with DBS-checked personnel. They operate under strict guidelines to ensure the highest standards of safety and support.
The Importance of Safe Havens
Safe Havens play a crucial role in enhancing community safety. They act as a beacon of hope for those who feel threatened or vulnerable. Knowing that a safe space is nearby can give individuals peace of mind as they navigate high-footfall areas. It’s essential for cities, especially those as busy as London, to take proactive steps toward ensuring public safety. The emotional and mental well-being of residents and visitors alike is paramount.
A Community Effort
The establishment of these Safe Havens was not a solo effort. Special thanks go out to the dedication and support of the St Katharine Docks team. Their commitment was vital in setting up these two new Safe Havens. Collaboration among various organizations, including law enforcement and local businesses, reinforces the message that safety is a shared responsibility.
Future Endeavors
As this initiative continues to evolve, there are plans to expand the Safe Havens throughout London. Each new location will be equipped to meet the needs of the community it serves. Making Safe Havens more accessible is crucial. Research indicates that accessibility to safe spaces can significantly reduce anxiety and promote overall well-being among the public.
In conclusion, the introduction of Safe Havens at St Katharine Docks is a significant step toward creating a safer environment in London. The combined efforts of Unitrust, Cushman and Wakefield, and local authorities demonstrate a genuine commitment to community safety. Through these designated spaces, we hope to foster a sense of security for everyone.
