Following the recent US–Israeli airstrikes on Iran and rising tensions in the Middle East, the UK Government has confirmed that the national terrorism threat level currently SUBSTANTIAL is under active review. Should escalation continue the threat level could increase to SEVERE or CRITICAL. Both carry significant operational implications, particularly in terms of sustaining an elevated security posture over time.

Periods of international instability can increase the risk of retaliation, including activity by proxies or lone actors. This makes it a timely moment for organisations to review their preparedness, including:
Staff vigilance and briefing cadence
Visible deterrence and patrol posture
Access control and contractor management
Lockdown and “Run, Hide, Tell” awareness
We have produced a short, practical briefing outlining proportionate measures to consider if the threat level changes, along with links to trusted guidance and resources.
