Night shifts can be long and quiet but a friendly chat can go a long way. This is the thinking behind our new Hot Chocolate & Chat initiative, where we take the time to visit sites out of office hours to check in with our colleagues who are working in the evening.
Beginning in October members of our operations and leadership team will be spending a few hours every week visiting sites and chatting with our officers as they work their night shifts.
Unitrust's Compliance & ESG Director, Sarah Griffin and Security Contracts Manager, Tony O'Donovan helped start the initiative the evening before World Mental Health Day.
“It’s a small way to demonstrate to our people that we care about them,” said Sarah. “It was lovely to have conversations about life, work and just to take a minute to say hello. We’ll be popping up at sites throughout the winter to check in and look after everyone’s wellbeing.”
Having a conversation is often the best way to check in on someone’s mental health and it is something we can all do, any day of the year.
